Scott Gordon was born in 1951 and raised in Oklahoma City. He is a product of Oklahoma City public schools. He took an early interest in his family's jewelry and general dry goods business, which was founded by his grandfather Samuel Gordon in Oklahoma City in 1904. From his boyhood, Scott remembers many weekends and summer days spent in the old downtown fifth-floor showroom, full of cameras, golf clubs and electric blenders. There he could be found, at the back of the store, where sunlight poured through the giant windows, playing determinedly with a loupe, tweezers and diamonds.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in 1973 and returned to the family business in 1976. He became the first Graduate Gemologist (GIA) in the company's history in 1981, and five years later, its first trained appraiser, through the International Society of Appraisers. He was the first person in Oklahoma to obtain the Fellowship Diploma from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, in 1988. After receiving the designation of Accredited Senior Appraiser in 1990, from the Americian Society of Appraisers, he was again the first in the state a year later to earn the advanced title of Master Gemologist Appraiser®, also from the American Society of Appraisers, which is the oldest multidisciplinary appraisal society in the United States.
In 1991 he opened his own business on the Mezzanine at 50 Penn Place in Oklahoma City. He is one of the best qualified gemologist-appraisers in the United States. He brokers diamonds and colored gemstones and designs new jewelry, including classic diamond engagement rings. He specializes in buying and selling antique, vintage, and estate jewelry from and to the public.
